Spring is in the Air

Happy Spring!

Is Spring in the air... not too sure!!!

Hopefully it is just around the corner.

Most of us take advantage of the beginning of spring to fling open the windows and clear out the dust, clutter and trash. Something to think about when it comes to your business, it is a good time to clear out those old emails and digital file folders.

With Spring comes changes. The Oxford Women In Networking Board has openings. This is a great way to grow and give back to Oxford Women In Networking and your community. Deep relationships are built within the board as we work together as a team. If you are interested in joining our friendly, supportive, hard working board please contact our Nomination Committee Chair - Judith Fleming and email

Attending our Oxford Women In Networking events and lunches are enjoyable due to our member's, great enthusiasm and supportive attitude. Each Networking Lunch and Networking event are a fun and rewarding experience.

Our next event is Ladies Night Out at the SixThirtyNine, one of Woodstock's place's to be seen at!

Then our Tea Social at the beautiful and unique Chateau La Motte. Experience a true British Afternoon/Morning Tea.  Tickets are limited, so Don't Miss Out!

Oxford Women In Networking, look forward to celebrating our 25th Anniversary. We have a great year planned for your Networking opportunities.

Reasons to Attend Networking Events

Check out these 5 compelling reasons to attend networking events.

1. Increase Your Visibility

Attending business networking events is an essential component of your marketing strategy. Share your organization’s mission, vision and passion with like-minded individuals.  Doing so will help build brand awareness.  Regular attendance at the same networking event will position you to build longer-term, mutually beneficial relationships; an essential element as you work to develop a reputation as a credible resource in your core competency.

2. Tap into Best Practices

No matter how experienced you are in your industry, there’s always potential to learn and grow. Said another way, “You’ll never know everything about anything, especially something you love.” according to the late, great master chef, Julia Child.  Exposing yourself to new people, businesses, ideas, and trends will allow you to find more ways to conduct your business and perhaps even become more efficient.  Trade shows and industry-specific networking groups will keep you abreast of trends and best practices in your specialty.

3. Develop New Business Connections

Events are a great place to meet new people and develop meaningful relationships that can potentially lead to strategic partnerships and referrals. An African proverb I think of often says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”  As I reflect on some of our company’s most powerful sub-contracting partners, I am reminded the relationships were birthed at an event.  Food for thought.

4. Invest in Personal and Professional Development

Getting from behind your desk to connect with [and learn from] others is an investment in yourself and your business. Many professional networking events have incredible speakers who are subject matter experts. Want to learn the newest trends in marketing? Attend a marketing conference!  Need to understand the business implications of a new regulation? Attend a legislative briefing.  Beyond the training experience, you’ll probably have opportunities to present your ideas and work to others, be inspired by presenters, and gain insight to techniques designed to give you a leg up in your business. Never stop learning!

5. Collect Market Research

Thinking about launching a new product or service, but wondering if the market has an appetite for it?  Seek out high trafficked, well-attended events to conduct a bit of market research and gather information about consumers’ needs and preferences.

Whether your motivations are to learn, to connect with others, to grow your business, or to share your vision, attending events can catapult your business success

Last but not least, spread the GOOD WORD, about Oxford Women In Networking. Tell your friends, family and clients about Oxford's Outstanding, Supportive Enthusiastic Networking group.

Networking is the act of making contact and exchanging information with other people, groups, and institutions to develop mutually beneficial relationships. It is a process that fosters the exchange of information and ideas among individuals or groups that share a common interest. It may be for social or business purposes.

OK so that sounds boring but we've all been networking since the day we were born. And that type of networking comes naturally. Some people are shy and take it gently and others are bold and aggressively make and keep new contacts. We had small circles of friends in the neighborhood, in the schoolyard, at church and we belonged to various groups like sports teams or board game teams or guides or sororities. And that all seemed easy.

But now in adulthood, we come to work in or start up a new business or move to a new town and we find we have to actively network to connect with new people to either increase our business goals or just to find some new friends to hang out with during our time here. For those who have always been bold that is a pretty easy task. But for those of us with shyer natures, it can be very daunting.

Oxford Women In Networking is a really welcoming and open environment for all types of women to come together and find what they need. We offer a variety of ways to get together like our online Facebook page and a private Facebook group, our monthly lunches in Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Ingersoll and our other social events where there might be guest speakers, vendor tables or a chance to get up close with several businesses in the area. And as always, our members are all open to help you with any question you have about business in general or their business specifically or with a chance to get together for coffee.

Our members recommend our friends in OWIN when we see or hear of someone in need of their services. But one thing to remember is that we can only recommend you once we get to know you and we get to know you when you come out to the various lunches and events we have and when you post interesting things or questions online.

So get active in 2018 with OWIN whether you do it in a shy way or a bold way. Work on your networking and we know that you will be able to grow your connections with friends who can help you make 2018 the best year yet for you. Let's rock it, ladies!!
