Message from your President

Fall is officially here which means leaves are changing their colours and pools are closed.  Our OWIN Shining Reflections September 25th EVENT was a great success, thanks to YOUR attendance and our fantastic EVENTS Committee.  Carolyn Martyn-guest speaker, a behaviour change agent left us with many thoughts to contemplate.  One being to change those negetive thoughts we often think and say about ourselves.  Carolyn's message was delivered to us during a season of appropriate is this!

My opening remarks for our Shining Reflections EVENT was...I believe that true NETWORKING occurs when there is an understanding that everyone in the room has equal value.  In its purest form, it's about people enjoying other people, communicating passions and connecting with others who share those passions.  It's about listening, figuring out what others need and connecting with people you think can help, without any designs for personal gain.  The most successful networkers build genuine RELATIONSHIPS and give more than they receive.  They go beyond thinking, "What's in it for me?" to ask "How can I help?"

"your business comes from relationships, relationships should be your business."

Operating a small business often feels like a24/7 commitment.  And because time is money, attending EVENTS may not rank high on your list of mission critical, revenue-producing activities.  We'd all probably agree, however, that building a strong professional network is essential to business success.  So, attending Events may actually be the missing piece in your business developement puzzle.

EVENT attendance comes with significant benefits that may help you grow your business.  The good news is EVENTS, unlike a multivitamin, don't require a daily dosage.  Who's got time for that!?  The better news is, once you identifythe "right" EVENTS and master your connection strategy, a monthly dose will do ya.

Our next OWIN EVENT is in November.  Prepare yourself for Fun!  It will be exciting!  Look for email notifications in your email!  Get your ticket early and show your support of YOUR, STRONG NETWORKING Group!

Need help with your Business?  OWIN is a group of business savvy, STRONG, CONFIDENT, GIVING women.  Just ask and you will discover that many of our members will be there to SUPPORT you!  I have seen this happen.

Your ideas are valuable.  Please let us know what you would like to have at one of our OWIN EVENTS.  Email us at

Looking forward to seeing you at our next OWIN lunch and EVENT!  Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoyable Fall Season!

Jane Ross ~ President 2017/2018

P.S. I give Thanks for all my NETWORKING Friends!

Welcome New Members

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

We are so glad you have joined us and we look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and sharing the excitement about your businesses.

If you have any questions regarding membership, what OWIN is about, or what some of the benefits are, please contact us. We are more than willing to help.

Yes, networking works! Our members get to know each other and their various businesses by getting together, sharing ideas on business matters and personal growth. We have a very strong history of networking that continues on today - we support each other and recommend our fellow OWIN members' businesses wherever we can. Together we are strong. Without our members continuing to tell their friends and co-workers about our group, we certainly wouldn't have grown and continued to be an excellent networking group in this community for over 21 years!! So thank you to everyone who is an advocate for OWIN. We appreciate you.

Welcome our latest OWIN members:

Fall Networking Tips

Prepare for networking this fall with these great tips!

1) Review your networking efforts for the year so far.

Have you reached your objectives? Made new business contacts? Been able to send business or personally give business to anyone you have met through networking?

2) Set Networking Goals for the coming year and create an Action Plan!

Ifthe first set of questions left you wondering...." what are my objectives" then you need to set some Goals! If you did meet your objectives then you need to challenge yourself with new ones for 2018. Now is a great  time to get started on creating a plan of action of how to improve your business through networking! Maybe you did not make it to any OWIN events this year? Strive to make it to all of half of the events next year,  get out to more functions within the community, design a new business card or website that you can pass out at events.

3) Set up meetings and connect with other women in business

You have been to the OWIN lunches, you have been to the OWIN events but what is next? Pull out those cards you have collected and thrown in the bottom of your purse and make some calls! Set up a coffee meeting with other members and business women and discuss how you can work together to help each other reach your goals! Take time to learn about each other's businesses.

Start treating networking like a business meeting, attend all of the events, lunches, meetings, festivals whatever is available to you to promote yourself, learn how to improve and expand your network. Arrive at events early to give you more time to mingle with others before speakers come on or activities take place.

5) Utilize social media

Get online! Get a Facebook page, a twitter account, a LinkedIn account, Instagram, and use them actively. Connect with the people you meet through networking and help them to advertise their business by sharing their content and you will be surprised to see that they will start to do the same for you!

Be sure to check out our monthly networking lunches, see you next issue!

Have questions about using the OWIN website, sponsorship opportunities for OWIN, events or membership inquiries? Contact your board members today and they will help to answer all of your questions. - General concerns - advertising, marketing, and networking lunch questions or concerns. - sponsorship opportunities - upcoming or past events questions - questions regarding your current membership or new memberships
